If the dishwasher completes its program normally but the dishes are still not clean enough, this is one of the common problems users experience. After the cycle ends, plates may still have grease and food residue, while glasses may show stains or cloudy marks. This does not always indicate a serious fault and may be caused by several factors, ranging from the filter and spray arms to the detergent and water temperature.

One of the first parts to check is the dishwasher filter. During washing, the filter traps food particles and other debris removed from the dishes. If the filter is not cleaned for a long time, it can become clogged and prevent proper water circulation. As a result, the dishes may not receive enough clean water.

A dirty filter not only reduces washing performance but can also cause unpleasant odors inside the dishwasher. As grease and food residue accumulate on the filter, water circulation may weaken. The filter should be removed and cleaned regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The spray arms also play an important role in cleaning dishes properly. These components spray water under pressure in different directions inside the dishwasher. If the spray holes become blocked by food particles, dirt, or limescale, the water may not reach all dishes with sufficient pressure.

It is also important to check whether the spray arms can rotate freely. If large plates, pots, or other dishes block the movement of the spray arm, the water will not be distributed correctly during the wash cycle. For this reason, dishes should be arranged so that the spray arms can rotate without obstruction.

Incorrect loading of dishes also directly affects washing results. If dishes block one another, water and detergent cannot reach all surfaces. This is especially common when the baskets are overloaded, causing some plates and glasses to receive very little direct water.

Placing heavily soiled pots and pans in front of other dishes can also reduce cleaning performance. For better results, the dirty surfaces of the dishes should face the spray arms, and enough space should be left between items.

The type and amount of detergent are also important. Low-quality, old, or unsuitable detergent may not fully remove grease and food residue. Using too little detergent can also reduce the effectiveness of the wash cycle.

If dishwasher tablets are used, it is important to check whether the tablet dissolves completely during the program. If tablet residue remains in the dispenser or at the bottom of the dishwasher after the cycle, the problem may be related to the detergent dispenser door, water temperature, spray system, or program selection.

The detergent dispenser door may also be blocked by dishes. If a large plate or frying pan is placed directly in front of the dispenser, the door may not open fully during the cycle. In this case, the detergent will not enter the washing process properly, and the dishes may remain dirty.

Water temperature is especially important for cleaning greasy dishes. If the water does not reach the required temperature, grease and dried food residue may not be removed completely. In this case, the problem may be related to the heating element, temperature sensor, or control system.

If the dishwasher does not heat the water at all, washing performance can decrease significantly. If both the dishes and the inside of the dishwasher remain completely cold after the program ends, this may be a sign of a problem with the heating system.

Insufficient water entering the dishwasher can also cause poor cleaning results. Low water pressure, a partially clogged inlet filter, a faulty inlet valve, or a problem with the water level sensor may prevent the dishwasher from filling with the required amount of water.

The dishwasher circulation pump sends water to the spray arms under pressure. If the pump becomes weak or there is a problem with water circulation, the pressure from the spray arms may be insufficient. In this situation, the dishwasher may complete the program, but the dishes will not be cleaned properly.

White spots or cloudy marks on dishes do not always mean that the detergent is ineffective. Hard water, insufficient dishwasher salt, or an incorrect rinse aid level can also cause marks on glasses and plates.

If the dishwasher has salt and rinse aid indicators, it is useful to monitor them. In areas with hard water, special dishwasher salt helps the water-softening system function properly. Rinse aid helps reduce water spots, especially on glass and shiny surfaces.

Choosing the wrong program can also affect the result. A short, low-temperature program may not be sufficient for heavily greasy dishes or dried food residue. In some cases, selecting a more intensive program suitable for the level of dirt can solve the problem.

Using the dishwasher for a long time without maintenance can cause grease and limescale to build up in internal pipes, the spray system, and the filter area. Regular internal cleaning and maintenance procedures recommended by the manufacturer help preserve normal washing performance.

If the filter is clean, the spray arms are not blocked, the detergent is being used correctly, and the dishes are properly arranged but washing performance is still poor, the problem may be related to the circulation pump, heating element, temperature sensor, inlet valve, or control module. Checking these components may require special diagnostic equipment and measurements.
